The rationale
South Gujarat has five predominantly tribal districts where over 80% of rural families are small farmers or landless labourers. With early marriage still common, tribal girls face even greater marginalisation than boys. There remains a large pool of gifted students in remote government schools who simply cannot access vital resources at the right time to make the cut into life-changing professional courses.
MECT has built a resource-rich ecosystem to empower exactly these students. Without timely support to succeed in competitive exams, talented tribal students lose out to relatively privileged peers. Our broad mission is to bring about equity within tribal society.
Objectives
To construct a residential study centre for gifted students, mainly girls, aspiring to careers as doctors (MBBS/BAMS), engineers (B.Tech) and civil servants. The centre enrols meritorious students who scored 70%+ in HSC and are willing to take a one-year drop to prepare for the relevant competitive examination.
Who we serve
At least 95% of residents will be tribal students, 200+ girls and 30+ boys, who have completed HSC with a minimum 70% score, cleared an internal aptitude entrance test, and demonstrated the ambition and perseverance these exams demand. The ST community has a 15% reservation in colleges across India, but without coaching, guidance, scholarships and a safe residential space, rural students stay locked out.
The building
- Structure: Ground + 3 floors, 24,000 sq ft.
- Ground floor: 3 classrooms, an IT centre cum library, a volunteer faculty room.
- Floors 1–3: 4 dormitories on each floor (capacity for 200+ girls and 30+ boys).
- Rooftop: Solar installations making the building self-sufficient in power.
- Safety: Integrated fire-safety system.

Expected outcomes
- Building completed on time with 100% funding secured in advance.
- 200+ girls and 30+ boys enrolled from the June 2027 launch, across 2–3 streams.
- 40%+ strike rate in competitive exams (NEET / JEE / relevant govt. exams).
- Dedicated coordinator, resident faculty and a professional coaching agency in place.
After launch: the scholarship scheme
- During the course: ₹40,000 covering all coaching and residence expenses.
- On admission to a professional course: up to ₹1,00,000 per year as a 0% interest loan, repayable over 5 years after the course, a "pay it forward" commitment from student and guardian.
